Frequently Asked Questions
Who are De Maeyer Ltd? (DM Ltd)
DM Ltd is a new joint venture between De Maeyer International and R
Foster Screenprint Ltd (RF). Created in October 2001, they are the sole
stockists and agent of Verreries Pochet et du Courval. (Pochet) in the
UK and Eire.
Pochet are the industry leading producer of high quality flint glass
for the fine fragrance, cosmetic and toiletry markets.
What are De Maeyer Ltd’s aims?
DM Ltd’s aims are fourfold:
- Provide premium quality French glass at any quantity to the UK &
Eire. DM Ltd holds stocks of standard Pochet designs, thereby almost
eliminating the need for long lead-time planning.
- Provide a decorating facility in the same location thereby eliminating
additional transport costs and further reducing lead-times. Most importantly,
this allows the customer to pay for a decorated bottle on delivery,
eliminating scrap and the decoration level.
- To provide all additional services that a small customer may
require. Artwork creation and manipulation, filling, packaging, product
storing, component and raw material sourcing, are all done on site.
DM Ltd is a one stop shop for the smaller customer within the UK and
Eire.
- To provide all of the above at significantly reduced quantities,
in an open, courteous and transparent way working with the customer
to manage as much or as little of their supply chain that they wish.
How good is Pochet Glass?
Pochet glass is quite simply the best, the world’s leading and most
renowned fragrance houses use Pochet.
How can De Maeyer Ltd supply glass in the
UK at such reduced lead times?
As sole stocking agents in the UK and Eire DM Ltd has the full support
and backing of Pochet. As stocks of standards are held in the UK customers
can order direct and avoid lengthy delays.
How much stock does De Maeyer hold?
Once a relationship has been established with a client DM Ltd will
aim to hold around 6 months' stock of the relevant design and size.
We will adjust and co-ordinate our re-supply of your design of glass
from Pochet to ensure that we are always in sufficient stock to meet
any fluctuations in your market demand. Our 6 months' buffer stock means
that you can always be assured of stock in the UK without having to
commit 6 months or so in advance, forcing you to gamble on high stock
levels and costly unused inventory.
Do you stock PET bottles as well?
Yes. We hold a selection of thick-wall (PETP) bottles in stock and
offer the same facilities as flint glass.
What is the difference between soft wall
and thick wall PET?
Image. Thick wall PET is High quality / high value. Prestige brands
across the world utilise this packaging medium.
What is a standard?
A standard is a glass bottle design that is not owned by a specific
customer. Therefore there is no tooling charge associated with standard
bottles. For a start up or smaller customer, this is a significant saving
as tooling is expensive.
Can I have my own bottle made?
Yes. Customers can have bottles made to their own unique design. They
would need to work with our designers and develop their own tool. This
is a process that can last in the region of 6 months and can be costly.
As an alternative, customers can customise a standard design at significantly
reduced cost. (eg logo embossed or debossed within the walls of the
bottle). DM Ltd would work with you to explore all the options available
and the likely costs involved.
What is tooling?
Tooling is the creation of metal moulds that liquid glass is poured
into to create the required bottle during manufacture. This process
is expensive and involves significant costs. Once created the specific
bottle design is then exclusively produced for the customer.
Can De Maeyer decorate bottles?
DM Ltd provides a full decoration service at their factory in West
London. Ceramic, organic and plastic printing are all done on site,
along with Hot Foils stamping on request. Etching, spray etching and
colour spraying are also offered and we are ready to discuss with customers
any specific unusual decoration requirements. DM Ltd can call on the
full logistical and technical support of Pochet and their many resources
in France if necessary.
Do you offer an etching service?
Yes. DM Ltd offers the customer as much flexibility as possible. We
can hold etched bottles in stock, coordinate the etching of flint glass
bottles on an as required basis using etchers based in the UK, or provide
a spray etched service with our spraying partners. We can also offer
a colour etched effect in whatever colour and tint the customer requires.
Can you spray my bottle?
Yes. Our spraying partner leads the field in spray etching technology.
Colours, patterns and effect can be replicated to the designers' wishes
in most cases. DM Ltd would work with customers to establish full specification
briefs and produce samples prior to production.
What colours and to what minimum order can you
spray my bottles?
Any colour or tint. The minimum order for sprayed bottles is 20,000.
Do you do undecorated and decorated samples?
DM Ltd can provide undecorated flint samples from stock and order any
specifics that we don’t have. Decorated samples will incur a small charge
to cover origination and production set up, which is redeemable against
the first order. Charges for that are available on request and vary
depending on the complexity required.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Once the relationship is established, there is no minimum order.
DM Ltd will ship any quantity on an as required basis, and allow customer
stock levels to be held at an absolute minimum.
What is the average lead time?
Established customers will by definition have stock available at DM
Ltd to call off and therefore the decorated lead-time is 2-3 weeks from
order. New customers may have an initial lead-time of up to 3 months
whilst sufficient stock is brought into the UK to accommodate fluctuations
in demand.
What are your payment terms?
DM Ltd payment terms are Proforma on the first order. Once Bacs details
have been established along with business credentials, our terms are
30 days nett month following.
Do you deliver?
DM Ltd is situated in West London, and deliver free to the surrounding
area. Delivery to any area in the UK can be arranged and is quotable
on request.
